The story of the Ahiska Turks in Krasnodar
In June, 2002 Ahiska/Meskhetian Turks living in Krasnodar, Russia started a hunger strike that brought much needed international attention to their problems.
The community leader Mikael Latibov, in Stanitsa Kievskaya of Krasnodar region, together with the support of human rights group in Novorossiysk initiated the strike having about 37 people from Kievsakaya participating in the protest and many people from other areas coming to support the strikers.
